Membrane switches with LEDs are still the most popular and economical method

A combination of LEDs, Light Guide Film and proprietary CSI backlighting methods can be designed to backlight the entire surface of a user interface. This membrane switch keypad is an interface between the machine and the user.

Membrane Panel

Our membrane switch panels are produced almost exclusively from polyester based materials offering excellent environmental performance under the most exacting conditions. Tactile response can be provided by stainless steel domes or thermally formed polyester “polydomes”. Environmental sealing and electrical terminations can be provided to suit your enclosure and electronics. The applications for our membrane keypads range from medical technology to the automotive industry to the waste disposal and recycling industry. Whether high demands are made of hygiene, or the systems are exposed to extreme external influences, as manufacturers of membrane keypads we supply the right HMI for every sector.

IP67 waterproof gaskets can be designed into a standard keypad assembly. Expert recommendations and support to build a reliable membrane switch to meet your application standards. From design to testing to manufacturing, Tapecon provides insights and adds value to your project. Our talented designers and engineers work together to understand the full scope of your requirements, then use CAD and other advanced software to develop an intelligently designed solution. Polyester domes – which are only ideal for room temperature environments – are more likely to crack in the cold, or erroneously activate all switches when they soften and “go flat” in hot temperatures.

Domes are positioned on the circuit pads, and when depressed, create contact closure. If your design calls for a membrane switch, you may also be interested in learning about other ways Tapecon can improve your product. When traces are pushed farther into the perimeter, this also limits the area available for gasketing the membrane switch to protect against water, moisture and chemical ingress.

ECI uses state of the art design and production techniques, material and components to produce simple to complex membrane switch and membrane keypad assemblies. Membrane switches are normally screen-printed on thin polyester using silver or carbon conductive ink. Beyond the basic requirements of membrane switches, Tapecon offers an array of options and enhancements to create the ideal electrical components for your product design. We always enjoy pushing the envelope and developing novel solutions for our customers. Membrane switches are part of a range of devices considered to be user interfaces or human machine interfaces along with touch screens and mechanical switches.
